Olga Joyce Prodeahl 1925-2010

1925  -  2010

Olga Joyce Prodeahl, went by the name of Joyce.

Passed away peacefully , in her 85th year,  on the 7th day of July 2010, at her home at  (The Gardens) in Qualicum Beach, B.C.     Born in Mount Ash Wales, on the 9th day of May 1925, of parents Reuben (1888-1974) and Anne Baker (1891-1941).  Joyce was the youngest of  eight  children--  (Ena May ,  William George,  Stanley John,  Annie Maude,  Reuben Trevor, Edith Ann (Peggy), & Arthur Ronald).     Predeceased by her husband , Leo Prodeahl  (1918-1989) , a son Douglas (1961-1972) & a grandson Wayne (1970-2004) .   She is survived by her children, (Robert - Nelda - Parksville B.C.),  (Arthur - Janice - West Bank B.C.), ( Kenneth - Doreen -Penticton B.C.),   (Claudette -Peter - Prince George B.C.),(  Brian - Judy -Hardisty, Alberta),  ( Barry -Dianne -Prince George, B.C.) , (Charles - Elsie -Prince George, B.C.) , Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren , and a Sister Peggy (Vernon B.C.)    Joyce was a coalminers daughter, and her family  immigrated to Canada April 1st 1927.  She  was raised in Luscar Alberta,  and joined the Canadian Army  Oct. 14/1943 and served until 1945.  She met Leo Prodeahl, while in the Service,  and they were married  in Vancouver, B.C. on May16th of 1945, moving to   Prince George, B.C., where she lovingly raised her large family.  Joyce moved to Parksville B.C. in 1984, and was a proud member of the Parkville Legion.  She had a wonderful sense of  humor,  love of family, honour & duty to Country .

Many times (on November 11th of any given year) watching TV,  (as she liked her privacy) , she could be found crying over the loss of soldiers  and friends  whom she knew,  many having  served and never returning from the theatre of War of  WWII.

Her family fondly remembers  her knitting  clothing for all of them, until arthritis intruded.     Joyce loved to play cards, and was an excellent cribbage player, and in her later years she loved to play Bingo.    A broken hip was her final undoing, and even at the end, she was more concerned about others, than herself.

Joyce will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.   We will also miss her keen sense of wit, her love of family & life,  her selflessness, and her willingness to give unto others.

A special thanks to those people at “The Gardens” in Qualicum Beach B.C. , who were of great comfort to Joyce in her last days, and to all who helped her,  on her journey of life, many thanks!

There will be no Service by her  request.
